Current Mood : Thrilled !
It may still
be ‘Spring’ on the calendar, but it definitely says ‘Summer’ out on the
pavement. It’s gonna be a long, hot one.
For now,
though , it’s not too bad, especially in the morning. We were up earlier than
usual because, right after supper last night, Dearest Son said he wanted to
make eggs for breakfast tomorrow – for everyone ! And with some help from
Beloved Hubby, he did. Yummy-tasty eggs, with ham and rye toast.
After a rich
breakfast like that, I had lots of energy ! And, thanks to some mild morning
temperatures, yard sales bloomed like dandelions. I spotted two on the same
street, two blocks down and one block over, while running an after-breakfast
errand with Beloved. Once home, I decided I could use a walk. Dearest wanted to
come with, so we were off.
While he didn’t
find anything, I had trouble limiting m’self. And in years gone past, I wouldn’t
have. I still kinda overdid it. But they had bags and boxes and bins and piles
of fabrics – scraps and yardages, bolts and bits. And three huge boxes of
patterns ! And ribbons and lace and all sorts of things that widens the pupils
of any sewist. Especially vintage stuff you won’t find on the Notions Wall of
yer favorite fabric shop. That one sale had everything but the sewing machine
and thread. The other sale had the sewing machine. Still no thread, though.
Eventually, I
calmed down and got a bit more selective. None of the patterns were either
sizes or styles I could use, and most of the notions were much the same. I
found a box of fabric with a lot of tasty bits I could use for guy or girl
dolls, and then a bag with some mint dotted Swiss fabric and nearly matching green
material, and a length of crystal pleated tulle. I’m also a sucker for Swiss
dotted fabric – especially if it’s any shade of green ! It was getting hot by
now, but I think I floated home, instead of walked. I could barely wait to
relax where it was cool, and start digging !
Went through
the box and separated out what I wanted to keep. That’s what’s in today’s
photo. Believe it or not, there was more in there ! I offered the too-large
prints and too-thick solid colors, most of which looked vintage, to FIL, who’s
taking creative photos and needs those kinds of backdrops. Since he’s growing
quite the fabric collection, I gave him the box, too. He really liked the shades-of-brown
partridge print tapestry piece.
So I think I
did pretty good for a buck-fitty. I have all sorts of new inspiration, and even
had some to share. The crystal pleat tulle alone is something I rarely see at
any price, and I can have sooo much fun with it ! It’s very much like the stuff
I cut off a woman’s slip to make Elphie’s sexy white nightie.
Now, wish me
luck finding places for all that fun !
Speaking of
fun, looks like Toys R Us is gonna have plenty for the Monster High completist. Seems that Ghoulia’s scooter and
DracuLaura’s bath are going to be packaged with dolls – TRU exclusives, no
less. Don’t know if, say, Mal-Wart, will be able to sell the play pieces without
dolls, or if the scooter and bath sets will only be sold at TRU with dolls, but
I’m sure we’ll see. I’m indifferent on both, although DLaura certainly looks
adorable in the images. Which are available through the Canadian TRU site here and here.
Several fans
who were as ‘meh’ as me now want both, for DLaura’s curls and Ghoulia’s outfit.
I’m still ‘meh’, and don’t really want either. Only way I’d buy the scooter is
if it came with a Slo-Moe doll on it, and it doesn’t.
Curiously, I’m
also a bit indifferent to the Roller Maze dolls, too. That can always change
later, but I’m considering just buying the skates, maybe offering a bounty of
$5. a pair plus $3. shipping for ‘em on the groups. I honestly think that now
that I’m playing more with my current dolls and sewing again, I’m more happy
with what I have. Still want any guy dolls I don’t already have, and giving
serious thought to Robecca Steam, but I’d be happy to get the school and dash
the rest.
Maybe I’m
finally growing up some…? Naah, can’t be that…
