I can still sew ! Sort of. Amazing !!

Guess who finally got motivated and made something ? True, it’s not very good, and is kind of screwed up – thank Everything the thread is such a close match to the thrift store fabric scrap, so you can’t readily see how awful uneven the stitching is ! – but it’s actually wearable by a doll, so it’s not a complete waste of time and materials !

Wish I’d had more of this material. I’d have loved to make the skirt a little more full and ruffly. As it was, I used nearly all of it, and had to angle my cut to get the skirt as long and gathered as it is. It doesn’t show much in the photo, but it’s very tight, the strap is way too narrow, and the armhole is too small, but I think I did pretty well with a pattern designed as an evening gown for a 50s 14-inch doll. I’d show you what it’s supposed to look like, but it makes my dress look so very much worse than it is, and I rather like how it turned out.

The darts don’t really shape the fabric but they do add visual interest, so I’ll redraw them when I add some to the side seams. I’ll see what that does to the armhole before I go after that, too. I’ve learned the hard way to alter only one fault at a time, because sometimes fixing one thing repairs another.

Frozen Fever Elsa arrived today ! She. Is. Gorgeous !!! I’m so happy to have her – now I can keep Disney Store Elsa in-box and have fun with this pretty girl ! I don’t know why her bodice is so determinedly off-center – all of them are – when the preview dress looks centered, but it’s very pretty. I like seeing her in something besides blue, although I think the big pink flowers are a bit much.

Download. Adapt. Revel in success...

We’re still digging out of the snow, black ice everywhere this morning. But most of the snow had melted during the day, leaving some icy spots tonight. Beloved Hubby’s co-workers bailed, understandably, so he napped and relaxed around the house today. It’s been nice to have him home safe, but we’re both a twinge worried about bills. Not that we can do much about our chameleon weather !

It’s funny what finally dug me out of my creative funk. I thought Elsa was gonna arrive today, but I can completely understand a snow delay. She’s currently chilling in Dallas, so maybe tomorrow. Anyway, I was kind of bored, so I checked Pixie Fair to see what the Freebie Friday pattern offering would be. Half American Girl designs I already snagged, half Ellowyne Wilde designs. Hmmm…. nope, too small for any of my dolls. It’s even just annoyingly different enough from Elphie (Tyler body) to require numerous alterations. Rats !

But I started thinking (everybody run !) about all those patterns I scanned from all those 70s and 80s doll magazines. I really hadn’t checked many of those, maybe something there would fit or be fun to try. I’ve found two that captured my interest, and printed one out, paper fitting it to knockoff DP&M Elsa. It might work ! Only one way to find out… probably tomorrow, the fabric scrap’s already cut out and Fray-Checked, but I’m darn near dizzy. Guess I’d best get dinner started !

But I confess, I’m a little excited and looking forward to sewing tomorrow !

But... I thought this was *spring* Elsa ! What's with all this snow ?

Rumors of an expected massive evening snowstorm swirled about today, so Dearest Son and I were up and at ‘em early. Ironically, we were out of milk, and ended up buying bread – Dollar Tree had some awesome loaves today ! – but supplies were good, since I think people have learned not to panic-buy. I don’t know why anyone ever did, when it’s a rarity for any part of the state to be snowed in for more than 24 hours.

Made good on my promise to take him to the Library, and print out five images of his choice. What can I say, our Library’s color printers are amazing, and at only 30¢ a page, very affordable ! He found some comics he wanted to borrow, I snagged a few sewing books, and we all left happy, once we figured out that the self-checkout device was acting up. Embarrassing when the alarm goes off, but you have the receipt still in-hand. Last place I’d dream of ripping off, the Library !

About 3pm, the grey-white sky delivered the promised snow. And it wasn’t a light powdering, it was the whole can of powder in one dump ! And it kept coming ! The early snow melted quickly and froze on the roads, right at rush hour. Local news was going insane. You’d have thought a tornado touched in the middle of downtown. Beloved Hubby’s crew wrapped up early, he was home about an hour after it started. What a relief ! Even then, the roads were ice, so I think he’s home tomorrow. They’ve already closed schools.

I really don’t think Elsa’s gonna arrive tomorrow. Fine with me, I’d hate for someone to get hurt so I’ll get a doll on time !

I ordered this pretty girl today !

Frozen Fever Elsa !
Often, after one of my big-awful tummyaches, I feel much better the next day, but I still ache and am sore. That happened today, and I’m lucky Dearest Son understood. I feel like the world’s biggest meanie for not keeping my promise to take him to the Library, but he says if I feel better tomorrow, we can go then. What a great young man we have ! Beloved Hubby made dinner tonight, and didn’t say anything about the wreck of the kitchen, and cleaned most of it.

Not sure what I want from the Library. Maybe some sewing books ?

Ow, ow, owww....

Having another of my incredible, all-encompassing stomach aches, so I’m trying to find some comfort somewhere. Right now, lying on the floor watching taped Law and Order : Criminal Intent episodes is my best bet, so I’m taking it. See you tomorrow !
